Does anyone notice this?

jscrick Oct 14, 2008 10:15 AM

Seems like when I open my tubs and I see a particular boa really colored up and happy, just chillin'...I think I can see the color pale ever so slightly on them, as they become aware something is up -- they are now exposed and I'm staring at them.
Is the color actually changing?
Is the color changing from the snake's mood change from calm and relaxed to startled?
Is the color changing from additional light?
Are my eyes becoming more used to the image before me?

I can relate to this. Especially with my motley female. And pastels. But boas are known to change their colors drasticly..

Why not when they are aware of something new in their enviorment.

Great topic!

Oh yeah and the more colorful ones have the larger swings.

It's well known for example that hypo/salmon change color all the time. Dark phase, light phase cooler color, warmer color. etc.

Check out these two pics of one of my rainbow boas, very accurate pics, no photoshoping. The difference being about 12 hours!! BRB's are known for the white sides coming up at night.

Yes, i've seen that happen to my BRB. At night the sides are grey and the bottom is pink. During the day it all disappears.

I'm talking about within a 10 or 15 second time span. I mean when I open them up and say, "Oh WOW!". Then go get the camera and come back to photograph and I'm thinking...it must have been an optical illusion.
The color intensity pales right before my eyes.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you, just the 10 second change is not as obvious as the longer term ones.

That's why the camera lives in the snake room....for color and moments like this...

I have a particular 08 hypo moltey that changes color almost every day. I'm color blind and even I can see the drastic changes. I's amazing.
