My husband and I bought a wonderful little garter snake. Hes bout 14-18inches and does wonderful. He has been eating gold fish but i find i have to keep getting him more and more to keep him well feed. HOw do i know when and if to feed him pinkies? Ive had pple tell me not to and to?
also quick question.. How do i know if its a girl or boy?

Earthworms and nightcrawlers are also good for garter snakes. They aren't necessarily going to like pinkies, I know for one that I've never been able to get mine to eat pinkies. However, if you can get him to eat pinkies, start when it seems that they're at the right proportion to his body size. Obviously, if the pinky could eat him, it's not the right time. 
Also, if you want to, you can move up to larger feeder fish.
I'm sorta a novice, so you'll probably get better advice from other people, but that's my advice.
