I went against all my rules for acquiring new herps. I saw the timors and forgot about ackies and the frilled dragons. So, I made an uniformed buy 2 blue-spotted and one yellow spotted. Have them in a 4'X 2'6" X 2' (LxHxW), I know this is way too small for three, especially now that my vet informed me that they are all males...what are the chances?! So, a few questions...in deciding how to go about creating new environments for them, I designed a circular cage measuring 6 to 7 ft. tall, with a 3 foot diameter - the center of the cage comprises of a large tree trunk with many holes and loose bark. 1'6" of substrate depth, numerous basking spots - branches, rocks, etc. Then I find out they are all males...maybe...the vet has "never sexed a monitor of this type before" and wasn't sure how many scales the probe would go down for male/female. The two blue spots went down 9-10 scales, while the yellow-spot went down 7-8 scales..any possibility that one is female? Regardless, do I need to separate the 3 males, forget that cage design and make 3, smaller, separate ones? I want to eventually breed...
Oh, one last question, how high should i keep humidity, I know it is relatively high, but I read that Timor and Roti stay a bit drier 7 months of the year or so, due to winds and its close proximity to the drier Australian continent...any thoughts? Thanks much!
