Brazilian Rainbow Boa Litter

Jeff Clark Oct 15, 2008 12:17 AM

Caat99F1 had her litter sometime while I was in Florida from monday morning to late afternoon tuesday. When I discovered them many of them were already dispersed around the cage.

The rest of the litter was in the nest box where they had apparently been born.

There were 5 stillborns and a few healthy babies in the box along with the usual big mess of slime. The babies that were out of the nest box were dry and had already lost their umbilicals. Total count was 13 healthy babies and 5 stillborns. The babies are very big with the largest one at 36 grams. This litter is 124 days POS with gestation in the very high high 70s to low 80s. Two of the stillborns were inside the membranes with extremely large yolk material. The other three stillborns were out of the membranes. No slugs were found though they may have been devoured. Judging by the way Caat99F1 looked a couple days ago I was expecting a very large litter. She now looks very plump for a new mom so I suspect she devoured a bunch or slugs.

Nice looking babies.

Does sound like she made herself a tater salad in your absence.

I'm at day 124 myself on my last female, she's a little restless today so I'm thinking any time now.....

Dave,
..This is my last one of the year that I have a POS date for. The other three (possibly even a fourth) gravid ones I did not record a POS date. They have the look like they are going to lay soon.

Oooh, nice! Love the crescents on the dry ones. Did I read in another thread that these are Lorio babies?

Julie,
...My 8/26 Caat99F3 litter was fathered by my Lorio male. This new litter was fathered by one of my Colling bullseye males. It looks like there are lots of not quite but almost bullseyes on these babies. I have been too busy to look at them all closely.

Ah. They're so pretty and clear, they remind me of the 10/07 babies I got from you. Very nice!
