forming great stuff

sblossomc Oct 15, 2008 01:51 PM

I'm thinking about making a back ground for my dart frogs. what i need to know is if i use card board wrapped in cling wrap and make a flat bottom and sides just to hold it to back wall demintions and straight sides will the form sepporate? Also is great stuff ok to use and if so does it need sealed or painted?
I know its hard to shape the surface but I think i can get close to what I want.

I think it would work to hold the shape, but when you removed the cardboard/cling wrap you would have a decent sized void around your background.

If you took inside measurements of your enclosure and built a plywood box with a little larger dimensions then lined that with clingwrap( I'm not sure greatstuff wouldn't stick) then you can get a snug fit.

Greatstuff is safe once cured but looks pretty bad. I would recommend coating it with several coats of thin set concrete mortar then painting it with a several coats of good latex paint

Hey Nate thanks for the reply. construction is no swet. iwas just concerned if it would hold up to the humidity and wettnes.
as far as the finish i'm thinking of going with your idea. thanks again!

This is for fish, but I think it's a good basis to work off of for a Vivarium.

P.S. You can use an airbrush to add color.

Cool little clip! I might use it with some of my snakes that like to climb.
