my beautiful sasha, i couldnt get any rats lately, so she ended up eating 5 large mice. She a big girl and goes thru them. Anyway, fed the first 4, finished doing the other snakes. Chucked the last one in an was done. Came back a few mins later to check things (glad i did) as she had decided to somehow try and eat the mouse and the thermometer cable in the same go. She was not going to let go of the mouse, i cut the cable and tried to pull it thru, i pulled it threw in the end, along with a small tooth. How bad is that she lost tooth? there wasnt much i could do, she wasnt going to let go of the rat, and i wasnt going to let of the cable.

No biggie, they shed teeth quite often. It never hurts to keep an eye on the mouth after an incident to catch any infection early, but its likely a non-issue.

I use black electrical tape to keep my cords out of my snakes' way. The BRB temps arent warm enough to make the sticky give way and get tape on the snake and I dont have the cord problems.

There was a funny blog post in iherp that was showing the weird stuff snakes grab along with dinner. styrofoam plates, sweat pants...lol. Your pix reminded me of those posts.

Like Julie said, losing the tooth is not a big deal, they're like sharks and grow new ones.

More important is the loose wire in the cage, need to fix that.

Also, if it were me, I would have watched and waited until she stopped constricting. Quite often thy drop the prey and then look for the mouth. If that was the case then you may very well have been able to remove the wire with no injury to the snake or the wire. Of course you might take a hit in the process but IMO worth it!!! It is your hide at risk, not mine!!

yeah, i tried that approach, but she was pretty content that she was going it eat it either way. Ive actually never been constricted so bad either, i had put my hand on her body, to help when trying to get the cable out. She decided with her tail, that my arm needed to be constricted aswell and yeah will get the cable sorted.
