heating in a do it yourself cage...

markpopejoy Oct 16, 2008 11:03 AM

I am thinking of builing my own cages from wood. The cages will house a red tail, rainbow boa and ball python. Would under tank heaters do any good under plywood? What are my options to keep these guys heated?
Thanks in advance.

No undertank in plywood. Overhead would be better. A radiant heat panel is the ticket for the boas. The ball would do great with one as well. Simple, safe, effective. Yeah they cost $70 each, but that is how it goes. They last nearly forever if used correctly and do not burn out like light bulbs.

If you want inexpensive-to-heat snakes, get variable kings or Mexican milks or something along those lines. Boids require a more robust heating method as described above.
