Reptile Ranches and some thoughts

h0mersimps0n Sep 07, 2003 08:16 AM

I know there was someone looking for info on the "Reptile Ranch"/"Kritter Cages" so here it is:

REPTILE RANCHES

I know the answer to this but I need someone to just tell me so I can drop it:

-IF I purchased one of those "self assembly" bookshelves could I use the largest "REPTILE RANCH" for my adult corns or would any of those in that line be too small.

I'm trying to figure out a good shelfing system for adult corns that shows them off and saves space by packing them in (i.e. versus stacking tanks.

The Vision cages look cool but 1.) too expensive and 2.) I hate the sliding doors.

thoughts? thanks.

The Reptile Ranch is to small for an adult corn.

would be the ideal size for a rack system for adult corns?

ive heard you can house an adult corn in a 20-long..i suggest a "Critter Cage" with a tight fit lid..ive got my gopher, mich, in a 30 long critter cage, and its perfect..also, how to you use heat pads on a plastic container? put it inside?

I use heat pads with my rubbermade boxes. All I did was put them up the back of my "rack".
I have three up the back of the rack. This provides heat for six shelves. Basically the same application as heat tape. Just slide the container against the back of the rack and it will be against the heat pad.
If you don't use a rack you can just put the pad under one end of the box. You can share one pad between two boxes.
I keep my pads on low.
They stay warm but not hot enough to melt a plastic container.

I don't think x1purpleXhaze1x understood my question...

What size rubbermaids do you use in your rack system? Any pics? you keep adults in the system right?

x1purpleXhaze1x: I have a shelving unit that holds FOUR 20G long's but am looking for something a little, well, more "efficient" for housing more adults.

Thanks Jimmy.

I think a standard rack system is the most efficient way of housing...but not too attractive. I think around 28q tubs are used most often. If the translucent (and not transparent) sterilite tubs are keeping you from making a rack, you can always dish out some more $$ for polycarbonate containers. You can find 18x26x6 Cambro food storage boxes online for around $25 each. It's a lot more money than the standard tubs, I bought my sterilites for $2.88 each.

How about I string a bunch of These together

aplaxco Sep 08, 2003 11:32 AM

I have seen those in the store but there is a pretty large gap along the sides between the drawer and the top of the box it fits in. I think it would be an excape waiting to happen unless you could find some way to block the gap without making the drawer impossible to open. If you can think of a way let me know.

I have a couple of 28 quart and a couple 30 quart boxes and a few 6 quart boxes alnog with several aquariums for my snakes.
My "rack" system is just a set of book shelves that I added a few shelves to and added some heat pads to the back.
