Three Clutchmates

Ryan Hoyer Oct 16, 2008 07:36 PM

I only wish there was more than three good eggs in this clutch!!!!!

You can bet I'll be matching up the same dam and sire in '09!

Those are spectacular. Especially interesting seeing that MSP emerge from two leonis-phase parents. Love to know more about their background, as Joe asked.

Cheers,

Ryan,
Isn't it amazing how the variability is.....
I have bred leonis to leonis many times and produced both MSP and Leonis animals, but never as nice as those....
I too, would like to know their lineage....I bet there's some VIVID and Vermilya in the mix......But, as always....I could be wrong...lol
Thanks for the pics...those three are exceptional....

WOW! Not much else to say on those. I like two types of thayeri, classic almost wild types and classic color but very clean. Those leonis are some of the best I've seen. Photography is nice too!

They are beautiful. I would also like to know the lineage. They look like they could have came from some of Dan's animals.

Sorry to hear about the low numbers this year Ryan. I'm sure next year will be better.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have found them so attractive. As I was processing photos last night, I was reminded of how stunned I was that the red MSP popped out from all the buckskin colors and just had to share. And yes, they are all destined to be holdbacks.

The dam and sire came from Ric Blair. I'll have to inquire as to their lineage. I have an idea, but I want to verify so I don't misspeak.

Certainly one of the parents to your breeders were MSP...Have you traced that?

And that is why thayeri are so fun....You can breed a MSP to a MSP for years and get all MSPs....then one year an awesome Leonis phase will hatch.....Not as predictable as any other snake.....

Just like Christmas, eh?

Ryan,

SWEET! Especially #1...Any idea of whose stock the adults originated from? You can email if you don't want to post...

Later,
Jim.

PS: See any similar characters with your #1 and my #1 below?

Jim,
I sure do like those Split Banded Thayeri....AWESOME!

Here's a couple I wish I still had...Produced in 2004.
The first one was from an Evan Stahl Leonis male X Vivid Leonis Female
I picked the bottom one up from Mitch Allen in Daytona in 2004.

John,

"I sure do like those Split Banded Thayeri....AWESOME!"

Me too and the "double split saddle" pattern was documented by Hobart Smith in his 1944 "Hoogstraal Expedition" paper...In other words, he documented a pattern in-situ that is still evident today...An exquisite pattern that in some instances contains four colors on one scale. The pioneers left us something to work with and Im grateful for that (and Bob Hansen for compiling their papers in one location for me to read - Thanks Bob)...

Later,
Jim.

PS: Your animals are sweet man, especially the one in the first two photos...

I agree with you 100%.....I just wish we were as lucky as Bob to be able to go to Mexico and still work with wild Mexicana. Years back I nearly begged him to take me with him.....LOL
I guess I chose the wrong career.
And...I too enjoy reading all the papers on Bob's site.
