Need help on length

nissaah Oct 16, 2008 10:09 PM

Hi!

I just got my BD and he has a part of his tail missing. I know he is 2 yrs old and so should be his adult size. I've wanted to measure him for some time now but I can't find the appropriate measures for an adult male from the nose to the beginning of the tail as I don't know how long is missing (obviously it's not there ^^). If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

I don't really worry about what the length of a dragon is. I feel weight is most important. I'd get yourself a digital weight scale that measures in one gram increments. I'd weigh your dragon weekly and write it down. It's extremely helpful in diagnosing if your animal is sick or not.

I have 19 1/2" babies hatched this May that weigh about 430. I also have an older male that is the same length but weighs 650. So if someone tells me they have a 19" dragon I really can't visualize it without knowing the weight.

If you Google, Bearded dragon growth, you should find a link for www.daichu.com where they tracked the growth of several animals both male and female from hatchling to adult!

Well thanks to both of you!
I did look on google but haven't found anything yet, will try again. And I will go get myself a scale, it's on the list thanks

If your concern is the overall health of the dragon and making sure he is a healthy weight - then you can post a picture and we can let you know

snout to vent length is measuring from the end of the nose to the vent opening. Tails are roughly equal in length of the body..not exactly but I can't remember if tails are a little longer than body length or a little shorter. Average bearded dragon size is typically 18-23" snout to tail tip length..so snout to vent would be roughly 9"-11.5"

These are not exact, so could be one inch or so plus or minus. Knowing weight and overall condition of the dragon is best way to judge health.
