RG Oct 17, 2008 08:49 AM

I went on a short trip to visit my Dad in Arizona last week...and I found my first "wild" AZ Mt. King!!!!!

In situ:

My Dad

Found this full grown male just north of Payson, AZ...in the middle of a dirt road, time 11am, temp was 71 degrees.

A few other trip shots...

Thanks for looking,
Rusty

Thats an awesome find, but I am most impressed with the Broad-billed Hummingbird pictures. I never seem to so much a see a hummingbird for more than 10sec let alone get pictures of them!

Best,
vinny

Thanks for the info. And yes I was serious, what does the word or abbreviation stand for? (situ)
Thanks again.

you are pretty handy with a camera Rusty!! Nice looking snake by the way.

RG Oct 18, 2008 03:41 PM

Most people ask, "what kind of camera do you have"...I tell them it must have nothing to do with the person actually taking the PHOTOGRAPHS!!!! LMAO!

Thanks again,
Rusty

I was a crime scene technician for six years and know a thing or two about photography. The best camera in the world will do little good in the hands of someone who cannot use it properly. Most of my subjects did not move much!!

Congrats!

Here's my Payson male (no in-situ, sorry):

And a little "woodini" that was flipped last year:

Thanks for sharing!!

Glad you liked the pics...how are those Hondos doing?

Sunherp Oct 20, 2008 09:37 AM

Way to go, Rusty! Nice find on the pyro. The elk are super, too. Not many folks get to see heards of those guys - we're a lucky bunch in the Rocky Mountain West.

RG Oct 20, 2008 03:10 PM

Hey Cole...yeah the Elk are great...so many animals to look at out west...most people don't even know what they are missing!

Those are really awesome pics. What camera did you use and how the hell were you able to get close to a hummingbird to take a snapshot like that? My guess is your camera really had a powerful lens to take the shot from a distance and yet make it look like it was pretty close.

Very very cool !!!!

The camera I have is a Canon Xti...and I usually use my 70-300 IS (image stabilization) lens...so it does allow me to zoom in to get the shots...then I crop the pics to frame them...and that's it. To get the hummingbird shots you have to take the shot at least 1/1000 of a second to get the wings to kinda stop...get the shot is more than challenging...it can be quite frustrating!

Glad you liked them!

Conserving_herps Oct 24, 2008 09:25 PM

Now I'm curious about that camera of yours. I think I'll go to a couple of camera stores this weekend to check it out.

Thanks again, and I do like the hummingbird pics the best...just because I know they are so hard to take.

Great job!
