PLEASE HELP, MY PACMAN IS COMMING TOMORROW!

CokeofMan Sep 07, 2003 09:43 AM

Please answer if you could, I need answers as soon as possible.

Finally, I've found a Pacman, and it's hopefully comming tomorrw. Now I have a few last questions before I pick him/her up.

1.Is it ok to use soil, even when the pacman is small? I'm worried abot the papertowels to dry out when I'm at school etc.

2. How big are the chanses of the frog gettting an impaction from soil?

3. How often should I change my Pacmans cage?

4. What is the correct humidity level for pacmans?

Thanks in advance

I've been told that pacman frogs do well on Bed-a-Beast, which is what I use. So far he's eaten some of it with crickets and it passes right through his system. The humidity of my pacman is at a steady 60-70, and sometimes it gets dryer when I'm at school. It's easy to keep humidity up though, just get two small plates or saucers and fill em with water. Then wet the soil a bit. Your frog is going to be in hiding most of the time, and it gets pretty wet down in the soil. Be careful not to get too much bed-a-beast into the water bowls though. That stuff is really absorbent.

As you can see, he/she is doing pretty well right now.

For frogs under 2 inches I like paper towels. They are easy to clean, easy to see when they are dirty, and they are more convenient. It also reduces the chances (however slim) of impaction. I have never had them dry out in just one day, but if that is a concern, try putting some moist sphagnum on the paper towels. Humidity should be about 60% or so. Some say over 80%, but these frogs do occur in areas that receive little or no rainfall over some parts of the year so 50-60 is a nice range. If you do opt for soil though, I would change it every 2 weeks or so to reduce bacteral build up. Bed a beast works well. Try to keep it on the dry side to ensure the horned frog only urinates/defecates in the water bowl. It will save you a lot of time/money. Andy
