An idea. Looking for sggestions

Jason W Sep 07, 2003 09:50 AM

Hi As most of you know I make an average of 2 trips a month to research reptiles. needless to say this gets verry expencive. I have been entertaining the idea of breeding snakes to sell the babbys and help fund me expeditions. I understand it wont make me a million but I figured it would be 1- somthing I love 2- help in rasing funds and 3- good science. So what do you think? I was not thinking about breeding any of the larger breed snakes but rather Corn snakes or maybe hog nose snakes just somthing small to average. I understand the cost and need for housing and food requierments and also understand the need to take the youins to the vet for checkups.

I don't think it is a good idea at all(don't take that the wrong way...I am not making fun of you our anything comparble to that). You will end up deeper in...most breeders rarely break even and most are in it for the fun and not the money. Unless you breed high end, rare snakes that are in high demand, you most likely will lose money. Andy

have to agree with andy. It's not something you will make money on unless you can travel state to state for the shows and you need a large stock for that. Not including the time and money for the trip.
