Feeding a problem eater

carl3 Sep 07, 2003 09:59 AM

I am so excited! My 03 Bloodred that has been a stubborn nonfeeder ever since I got her, finally ate its first whole pinkie (with a LOT of needed help from me). I tried something a little different...usually I assist nonfeeders by gently inserting a pinkie head just past the jawline. They either spaz out and thrash wildly until they spit it out -OR- they start to eat it. IF they start to swallow the head, I always thought it would be ideal for them to eat the rest of the pinkie too, but could never figure a way to do it. WELL, instead of cutting the pinkie head all the way off, I left it partially attached to the body....AND IT WORKED, she swallowed the whole pinkie!

MAYBE, sometimes baby corns just need to be shown how to do it. Sort of a step-by-step guide for them. LOL

I will soon post some pics of her but did not want to disturb her with its 1st full belly under my care.

Here is a pic from a few weeks ago, she was starting to starve herself to death and was a lot thinner than this prior to last night.

Just to let you know, my bloodred ate a pinky head last night. I put in her little hideout, and it was gone this AM. She has a tiny little lump in her belly. That makes me happy, but the blizzard and reverse, whom I thought would eat, still didn't. I might try heads for them next time. (about 5 days). I just keep hoping they will get hungry enough, and I won't have to assist feed them.
