IMO belly heat is far more efficient than back heat and helps create a much better heat gradient between the warm side and the cool side.
Most people run back heat because it is usually easier to set up.
Chondros may be one area where back heat is more "preferred" than belly heat.
Just in case a confirmation is desired or needed - I agree.

Also keep in mind rack heating is more of a necessary evil created by the room in which the rack is kept and the type of rack it is (closed or open).
Overhead Radient heat is best for aboreal animals...it is possible in a rack. Although I haver yet to construct an efficent prototype.
