worse news ever

draybar Oct 18, 2008 04:45 PM

I actually found out about this a couple of nights ago but have just now got around to telling you guys.

As usual I fed my snakes Sunday evening.
Everyone ate as they should.
Well, while I checked on everyone Wednesday night I found THE stripe cream dead.
It looked as if the mouse somehow either didn't make it all the way down or she tried to regurge and it didn't make it all the way out. Not sure but there was a bulge about a third of the way down and it was darker green then the usualy green you would see when a snake dies.
It really sucks. She was what I considered the perfect example of a stripe creamsicle.
All the other snakes are perfectly fine.
I can't really afford a necropsy right now so I guess I will never know what happened.
say good bye to the best stripe cream I've produced so far.....damnit

jimmy- i'm so sorry.... you can keep the female i was gonna take if you want....
BUT something kinda sorta the same happened to a snake on another site... the mouse had i guess somehow eaten or was wrapped in a metal- the snake ate it and the metal got stuck in the snakes throat... did you check the snakes throat to see maybe if some metal got into it?? I'm going to e-mail you the web address of the post.... i think if i put it on here it would be jacked up....

Sorry for your loss Jimmy. That really does suck big time! It's never easy losing one of our pets but when it happens to such a stunning animal it really pains us that much more

That definitely was the most shocking example of a creamsicle I've ever seen. Roll up your sleeves and start making another one. Good luck. Sorry for your tragic loss.

That's the crappy part of this hobby.
Really sucks when you lose a nice one.
Sorry to hear of the loss.

jyohe Oct 18, 2008 07:15 PM

the green darker than usual......the green spot is the gall bladder, after death it just eats away at the flesh and all and it rots like fast...one of the first things to rot out and the green spots grows....

..bulge?.......third way down.?........bacteria I bet..........

Well, yeah it could be worse, could have been the parents.
Bacterial huh?
care to elaborate a little more?
You think maybe some form of infection?

not infection
if they get a ball in the gut and it shouldn't be there, could be bacteria blooming....stomach probably forms all kinds of coatings and junk in the lining to try and protect itself...anyways...bacteria will bloom and grow in number....snake may regurge and look almost ok....then you feed and it blooms again...snake gets thinner and thinner till it finally gets cured or dies...
some die really quickly and some will live like this for years .
Nutri-Bac doesn't work for this...you need to kill all the bacteria first.....antibiotics...strong ones...

I am not saying this is what happened....I just remember (didn't go back to top post ),,,a lump? being mentioned....

........good luck.....

draybar Oct 19, 2008 08:50 AM

>>I still have the parents so I will definitely make more. Hopefully I will get a few more examples like her. Problem is I never get to keep any of them because they are my best sellers.
You can bet I will definitely hold back the best female, or two, next season no matter what.
I also have a nice motley female that the male stripe sired so I will breed him back to her as well and see if I get a few stripes from that pairing.

Hey Kin,
sorry to hear about your loss too. A lot of times animals that have kinks have other issues. I had a jungle corn that hatched with an "unfinished" belly. She healed after hatching, but had a small lump/kink as well. After a year, she developed an enlarged heart. I had to put her down. Who knows what other issues are there, when a snake is born deformed.
Take care

It's always rough when a snake dies without any apparent reason...especially a snake as nice as that one.

Sorry to hear about that Jimmy,

Tim

xblackheart Oct 19, 2008 03:07 PM

that is a true tragedy. I am real sorry. That snake was the best looking stripe cream that I have Ever seen!
I am Sorry Jimmy!
Its such a horrible thing to find any of your snakes dead in the cage, especially with no explaination.
