Cage recommendation...

markpopejoy Oct 18, 2008 10:30 PM

Do I go with a 36x24x17.5 or a 48x24x11.5 for my brb?
I like the taller one, but want to make sure 6 sq ft of ground space is enough... he is just under 5 feet long. This will also be the same size as my BP cage on top.

I have several 2' x 3' cages that I keep males in and they're perfectly happy. I'd also probably prefer the taller cage just in terms of appearance. You could dress it up with some silk plants and a tall/deep water basin. BRBs aren't an arboreal species but if you ran some sturdy branches across the cage, it would give the animal something to explore while he's cruising at night.

Do you keep females in the 2x3's also or just the males? Just curious because the wording of your post seemed to imply it was only males you kept in the 2x3's Mike.

Sean.

I do prefer to keep my females in larger cages when possible. My females are all much heavier bdied than my males and sometimes I keep more than one female per enclosure. For females I prefer 4' x 2' of floorspace.

Both will work fine, and I will buying cages soon and making the same decision too. I am looking at radient heat panels, so I may go with the taller ones just to allow the inch or so of room for the heat panel.

Also, the larger floor space will work better for breeding pairs - if that is in future plans.
