I found a tortoise at a state park in Missouri. I'm not sure what kind of tortoise it is because his shell is very deformed looking, and he doesn't appear to be very healthy. I plan on taking him to the vet, but what should I do until then?

Please post a photo of the "tortoise" you found. We can identify and suggest appropriate care. Are you confident it is not a box turtle? A photo in this case really is worth a thousand words...good luck, Vic picking up animals at State Parks is usually frowned upon, but maybe someone dumped it and you are doing the right thing.
