If you are new to lizards, I would definitely consider getting a bearded dragon. They have much easier husbandry requirements, especially in terms of providing a heat gradient that isn't as extreme. For example, a uro requires a 130* basking spot, 100* ambient and around an 80* cool side. This is only attainable in a very large enclosure. A bearded dragon requires lower temps (115-120* basking, 90* ambient and 75-80* cool side), which means that maintaining proper temps is much easier. In addition, beardies are generally less susceptible to getting stressed and tolerate human interaction better. In my experience of having 4 uros, they are notorious for being flighty even after having the animal for a long-ish period of time (2 years). I have only had a single bearded dragon, and he has been very tame since day one.

I'll post additional info when I have some more time, but I generally think that beardies are much more rewarding for first time lizard owners. Just my humble opinion, of course, since uros are fantastic as well.

Both are great lizards....i owned beardies for several years before i owned a uro...and i think my years of beardie experience made my uro keeping and much smoother process!

Beardies are hardy, friendly, and relatively easy to care for (providing you give them all they require)

check www.beautifuldragons.com for some great care info Make sure you do plenty of researc and can commit to the size and lifespan of the dragon before purchasing one!
