Babies with yolk still attached

jokerfish Oct 20, 2008 01:27 PM

My eggs started hatching yesterday (day 63) and a few of the babies still have yolk sacs attached to them , what do I do about this? Should I keep them on moist paper towels, or leave them in the vermiculite?

This is my first clutch, be gentle :-/

You definitely need to do something to stop the yolk from getting stuck to something so that the dragon will rip it off. They should absorb the yolk and the cord should fall off in a couple of days.

It's not a big deal. I use non stick shelf liner from Walmart for hatchlings. It's like thin foam rather than a particulate substrate. But, the yolk sac should drop off within a day or so and I wouldn't worry about it. In the wild I'll bet they get torn off before the dragon ever digs it's way out of the nest.
