Breeding

apalm2000 Oct 21, 2008 09:54 AM

I am new to the breeding scene and was wondering how I should go about breeding my coastal king with my lavander. Both are close to the same size. Will they try to eat each other if I leave them together or should I just leave them together for short periods and keep an eye on them.I dont want to lose one or both due to lack of experience. Can anyone give some advice on this..Thanks in advance.

Feed the female as much as she will eat in the spring - and as soon as she has her first shed, throw the shed in with the male. If he starts crawling all over the shed and his enclosure, he wants to mate.

If the female is well fed, usually there's not a problem. Males often don't eat much when they want to mate, but if he crawls all over her shed and possibly even inside it, he's got sex on his mind.

Anyway - very often, copulation often happens within minutes of the introduction - and usually lasts a few hours, at which point you separate them again and optionally re-introduce them a few days later for a second go at things.
