V222 Vision Cage

omerfriedman Oct 21, 2008 12:16 PM

I just got a Vision cage (model 222) and I was wondering what people recommended I used for lighting. I am housing a ~6ft jungle carpet python in in...do I even need to worry about lighting? I wonder because the cage isn't facing a window and it is a bit dark in there even during the day.

In terms of heating, I have a 100 watt ceramic bulb attached to a helix thermostat...should that be enough?

A 100 watt ceramic bulb running at full wattage will produce a contact temp of over 600 degrees.

This is far more heat than you need in a #222.

We designed the drop down light shroud to allow you to safely bring the heat down closer to the animals.

Even a 60 watt bulb may be too hot.

Be careful.

I don't know if its because my bulbs are old, but i put my helix thermostat's probe right under the bulb with the 60W and it wouldn't get passed 77 or so. even with the 100W, it doesn't get passed 85 (and its set for 90).

You seem to be the right person to ask: what is the best way to provide light inside the cage?

Give us a call and I will go over all the options for heating and lighting.

Thats what I would have said, way too hot. I use 30 watt bulbs in 30 gallon long tanks for baby bci's. With a solid top, I get temps that range from 84 to 95 on the hot side.
