Lightning strikes twice - Lightning Pied

Markus Jayne Oct 21, 2008 01:00 PM

It now seems that lightning can strike twice. Hopefully you are familiar with my Axanthic Piebald story in which I explained that I produced one by pure accident. Well it seems there is more to the story.

The other evening I received a phone call from a customer that had purchased a pair of het pieds from me a few years ago. He explained that the eggs were now hatching. I was waiting for him to say that there were either all pieds or no pieds. With them being hets it is possible for a small 4 egg clutch to carry no pieds. (I had and eleven egg clutch this year from pied to het and not one pied!) He asked me about the PieAxanthic I hatched out and then he casually told me that he though he has 2 in the clutch. At first I thought he was imagining it but he then sent me a picture and sure enough....PieAxanthics!!!

Imagine that. And I thought I was lucky. What are the chances of lightning striking twice and in two small 4 egg clutches.

This is why from now on I will refer to the Axanthic Pied as the Lightning Pied or the Lightning Ball.

Congratulations Patrick!!! I am very happy for. This is what makes breeding ball pythons so great. You never really know know what you're going to get or when lightning will strike.

Thanks for looking!

Markus

Does anyone that is computer savvy know why I might not be able to view about half of the pictures that are posted to the forum? I get a box with a red X in it

Markus, your Lightening pied is awsome! I'd love to be able to view the pic of the others.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!

....not big on the name. Sorry....

Lightning Piebald?

Cypress Creek has co-dom 'Thunders' with the Super being called a 'Lightning'.

Why make things more complicated than they have to be?

I still haven't learned all my Bee's..

Markus Jayne Oct 22, 2008 08:01 AM

I was unaware of the Lightnings. I googled the name and nothing came up. With so many morphs it's hard to keep up with all the names. The general consensus is that it should be called what it is...a piebald axanthic....PieAxanthic. I think I'll stick to that seeing lightning is already taken.

Thanks for the input.

Have there been any non axanthic pieds produced in the same clutch as the axanthic pieds?

pitoon Oct 22, 2008 09:37 AM

i believe markus produced an axanthic in his clutch with the first axanthic pied.

now the questions are to what line is this compatible with?

Pitoon

Markus Jayne Oct 22, 2008 10:07 AM

There were 4 eggs. Here are three of them. The 4th was a normal looking het male.

That pied het axanthic is AWESOME by its self! Everything you want in a pied!

RandyRemington Oct 23, 2008 12:46 AM

Well that pretty much proves they aren't linked. I was starting to wonder about it after reading about the great odds though. Would be fun if we ever do run into linked mutations in a combo project. Was wondering with the true ghost if linking was getting in the way but apparently not at least with the TSK axanthic line.
