I am working on a large multi unit melamine cage. My fiance wants the outside to look nicer so I want to attatch paneling to the side of the cage. I would prefer not to use screw so you dont see them I instead wanted to use some kind of adhesive. The store told me to use PL200 construction adhesive. I dont think their would be a problem since it is on the outside of the cage but some of the warnings made me nervous. What is everyones opinons on this stuff or is their a better stuff to use. Thanx in advance for the advice.

In general I have found the solvent based construction adhesives to apparently offgas completely so I don't worry about them a whole lot, especially on the outside of a cage. Interior I might be a bit more careful.

In this situation I would want to be sure that the adhesive bonded to melamine, which is known for not accepting glue very well. I did use a solvent based construction ahesive to attach wood to melamine once but I also backed it up with deck screws so I can't say how good of a bond was made.

If it sticks make sure to keep the paneling flat during the dry time. I have seen paneling attached with thicker adhesives that ended up having a rippled look. I don't believe this will be a problem with most construction adhesives, however.
