2002 CB YT MALE

BrianSharp Oct 21, 2008 09:51 PM

I became bored with all the political programs on TV, and decided to share a couple of photos taken last month. This 7.5 foot male and the 7 foot female whose photo follows in the next post produced a clutch of 13 good eggs for me in 2007. A photo in the third post will show a 2007 female I held back. All are mellow and a joy to handle.

Man Brian you don't make this addiction any easier, your a pusher-man.

So thats a six year old captive born animal and its 7.5'. Thats one of the older CB animals I'm personally aware of, correct me if I'm wrong but growing another 2.5' seems out of the question right? or does it take them 10-12 years to keep growing to become monsters, or are YT's on average only a 1-2' longer than most other Drymarchon including the huge ones?

Sorry for all the questions I just like to figure these things out. This is not directly pointed at Brian if anyone else has some thoughts....

Nate,

I didn't stuff him with food, since I wasn't trying to go for a record. Sure, he could probably reach 7 feet in three years with heavy feeding, but as with humans I don't believe it's healthy for the animal long-term.

The father of this animal just died this spring at around 14 years of age. He was just a few inches shy of 9 feet and weighed 18 pounds in his prime, about as big around as the business end of a baseball bat. He was produced way back when by Chuck Elliot. He was a tame, magnificent animal, the patriarch of my group, and it felt like I lost a friend when he died. I wish I had a decent photo of him, but I don't.

Beautiful! Those are the nicest looking YTs I've seen. Did they produce this year also?

I didn't try to breed them in 2008, but hope and expect to have some youngsters in 2009.
