Male Jungle Belly up?

drumsforlife5446 Oct 21, 2008 10:46 PM

I've got two things for you, the first involves Jungle Carpets, I have posted in both forums but I think I am more likely to get an experienced post in this forum as to better how I care for my snakes. EX: Not freaking out over what may be nothing.

Well, here it goes...I came home today, and my male carpet, who is about 6 feet, was relaxing except for...his belly was flipped up and he was all twisted up looking. Like his spine was all funky looking, like kinked. He looked completly normal besides this. Well, me, I'm totally freaking out over it. I checked on him, and he looked at me like 'What? Why are you bothering me?'. He promptly straightened himself out but i'm left wondering...Was he just relaxing? I'm positive he's a male, I've only heard of females doing that when they are ovulating or gravid. Or is it something I need to worry about? I have had him for less than 6 months but I've never seen him do it before.

PS: He is pretty aggro too. He gets offended if I don't introduce myself or pick him up the right way...he puffs up and hisses and pretends he is going to bite me(He hasn't yet, but I'm not going to push it!). He will be like this for a few minutes...and then he is totally fine. He lets me pick him up, walk around hang out in the sun or something, he'll even let me touch his head. But when I reach in there he is so wierd. My female(who was my first carpet, and I've had her since she was a baby) has never acted that way. Is it something i'm doing? Could I make my prescense known better?

Most likely....he was just peacefully sleeping.
I've noticed it only a few times with my Carpets but, my Black Heads sleep upside down a good bit.

This male is dead asleep! Haha.

Another one...

I would worry about it if he seems fine now.

Cheers
Derek Roddy.

Outside of seeing Derek's sleeping BHPs , and gravid female carpets, I've never seen them lay upside down. Once in a while I'll see part of lower third upside down, but that's about it.
