My boa gave a premature partial birth!!

arcanemind Oct 22, 2008 10:48 AM

She ovulated on 7/8/08.
Her POS was on 7/22.
on 10/20 (or 90 days from POS) she delivered 5 premature stillborns and one big chunk of poop! She is still full of babies, and hasn't delivered anything else sinse.

My thinking is that while she was trying to defecate, she popped out some of her babies prematurely?? And she's still holding on to the rest until they are due?

Or is it something else? Should I be worried???

I had the same thing last season,,,,my girl gave a few babys to early along with a Big poo,,,,then waited 2 more weeks to give me a GREAT litter of 23 perfect babys.

keep an eye on her and maybe you could enjoy us with a PICTURE of her how she looks now.

Have fun.

I think this might be an example of why many breeders limit food intake while gravid, even not feeding any at all towards the later stages. The possibility of losing ova (or even entire litters) while defecating.

I'm not in any way saying you fed her too much or too large of a meal. Could probably happen with any size meal.

From here, about all you can do is watch and wait!!!

Same thing happened last season to me as well. Once my females have there POS. I start feeding them again ever 2 weeks (a small rat as to barely make a noticable lump).

I should have stop a month prior to birth.... but feed her up until the last 2 weeks. My girl did the same as you..... pushed to deficate and gave me POO and a nice clean premature Anery het Snow!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it.... she should be fine. Obviously.... NO MORE FEEDING lol.

Good luck!
