Bull snake poop Q?

Atlas511 Oct 22, 2008 11:16 AM

I have been keeping snakes for a long long time and i finally picked up a pair of hypo bulls. I posted a few weeks ago on helping my male chill out (which he did). Well here these next question since i have never had bulls before.

Why does there poop smell soooo bad? I have retics and pound for pound the bulls smell alot worse. I have kings and other coloubrids of the same size and bigger that are on the same diet (personally breed then f/t mice) but there poop is no where near as bad.....

So is this normal?

Yeah it's normal IMO...

Pines and Bulls excrement in my experience is much more pungent then other species of snakes, when my Black and Northern Pines go, well I can smell it several rooms away behind several closed doors. I have also noticed if I feed them chicks/quail the smell is ten fold then when I use rodents. I have heard the only colubrids worse then the pines is the Indigo snake.

My Large male northern pine is a crapping machine, he starts crapping the day after fed and then craps daily for like a week, they have a higher metabolism then other colubrids as well.

I have taken a few $hits a man can be proud of myself, BUT the Pines have me beat hands down.

Haha...yeah, welcome to the wonderful world of Pits!

Oh, and Frank...Indigo poop (IMO) does smell even a little worse than Pits if you can imagine such a thing!

I'm going to say that my YT Crbos and Cobras have crap that smells worse than what my Pits put out and it's FOUL! Very similar to Monitor crap!

It's funny, because I was reading the indigo forum today, and they say that Pits smell worse. I guess which ever one you like better smells better. They are both pretty bad, in my opinion. But they are worth it.

I've moved out of Pits and into Drymarchon recently and I have to say Dry's dont even compete with Pit's. The Drymarchon poo little messes all over the cage where pits drop huge bombs everyday. I really don't get where they store all that crap, I feed them 2 large mice and they poop 4 medium rat sized turds wierd. The smell is also the worst, my Drymarchon don't even stink as bad when they are fed fish.

I think its funny how the Drymarchon have the bad rep for being messy snakes when Pituophis obviously take the cake. While I only keep a pair of BT's conversations with many others have the same thoughts.

I have about 30 snakes and the other day my wife and I were sitting in the computer/snake room when I noticed one of them made a poopie. The wife was impressed that I knew exactly which snake it was by the smell...my largest bullsnake.
Not only is their smell impressive, but I can hear it pretty well too when they go. I just get a wad of toilet paper, scoop it up and flush it and them spray some "Ozium" air freshener.
