lighting for snakes

54podge Oct 22, 2008 12:11 PM

I recently received a 55L from my brother in law, it was used only for fish. Well, I converted it to a home for my brooks, but I have this hood sitting there taking up space. Is there any thoughts on using such a light for snakes, or would it be harmful in any way? I would sure make for a nice display, but he get plenty of ambient light as is.

Snakes don't really need lights but it does not hurt to add low light for look. Just be sure that you have a couple of hides in your cage.

I use broad spectrum daylight bulbs, looks more like sunlight instead of brite white lights. Maybe 25watt bulbs.

Ya,I have never herd anything different, you can also get Flourescent daylight bulbs. It doesn't make any different what kind of lighting you use, but you don't want to cook them, or you wouldn't want to put a nokturnal reptile under a brite light.
