force-feeding Q

54podge Oct 22, 2008 12:16 PM

I have now force-fed my baby eastern milk twice in the last two weeks. Should I stop because of the shorter days/impending brumation? Or, should I move him to a warmer room and continue until he takes a meal on his own? He is a hatchling of about 2 mos. old, and to my knowledge the only food he has taken has been the mouse tails I started 2 weeks ago?

You have started a routine of him feeding so keep it up. The snake should grow a bit in a few meals so I would cut the number of days in between tails from 7 to six and so on. As you get him used to feeding on tails he may get more aggressive, starting to swallow on his own,etc... it may take a month or 2 before he starts feeding but once he does you will get growth in the first year. When they do feed they arent consistent, as they take alot of food in increments....he may feed like crazy for one month then not at all for 2. Brumating may get him started, but if you are already ff I would just continue. Good luck!
