Rumor about pied hets.

herpersteve Sep 07, 2003 01:35 PM

I read while looking through the classifieds that it is rumored that snakes that are het for pied have an all white underside with black stripes starting at the tail... anyone heard about this? know where it originated? Anyone have hets with these stripes?

I have a few het pieds in my collection some of which came from Peter Kahl and some from smaller breeders, Some of the animals I have do show these stripes on the belly. The ones I got from Pete do NOT have these markings, but yet I am 100% sure they are hets as Pete wouldnt sell a normal as a het... Some of the others I have also dont have them which doesnt really scare me yet anyways. But I do do have one that does have these markings. So as far as saying "ALL" hets show these markings I dont feel that is true becuase of the animals in my collection. I also have normals that were CH imports that do have markings like the ones that the het pieds are suppose to have. DOes that mean they are hets from Africa? I dont think so.. Just some food for thought..

Below I've linked what I think is the original KingSnake discussion on this subject.

About half offspring from the two Kahl produced 50% chance het males my sister purchased with these markings also have the markings including this ringer I hatched last week. It sounds like ringers may be more likely to show up in het pieds and also these stripes may be more likely in them but as many have reported not all het pieds have the stripped belly edge and I also think there are ringers that have nothing to do with pied.
