I personally hate this new chipped aspen, like pine. I can make that for free in my chipper. We use to get shredded aspen in a bale, and cheap.
Anyone still able to buy shredded bales and from whom?

I have seen bales of Mazuri shredded aspen.. The same company that makes some lab blocks for rodents.. I have no idea what the price is, I am trying to find out from a local place at this time..

That would have to be big bucks. I know of 2 companies that use to, but sun seed seem to stop making it? Like many things they seem to pull the cheap way to buy it and exploit the herp market, much like boat parts. IMHOOC

Hey Tom.. Lemme find out how much.. I might be a few weeks before finding out though.. Dang work.. I imagine $20 a bale though.. And the bales appear to be the size of the old regular hay bales from the farm..

I repeat that OUCH lol. The thing that bugs me is they stopped carrying the shredded from a number of brands all at once. Seems fishy to me.

Since I help at a shop I'm use to wholesale. I may buy 1000 bales and drive to daytona.

I use the aspen from LM animal farm. It's shredded and much softer than any other aspen I've used. It's weird but for some reason it's a lot softer. It also comes in decent sized bags. I have 2, 40 gal cages and a half a bag covers both of them. I like it, but I'm actually thinking of getting the bigger pieces of aspen. I feed in the cage on a paper towel, so I think it would be easier to pick off any stray pieces than the little fibers.

No, we're never gonna quit,Ain't nothin' wrong with it,Just actin' like we're animals - Nickelback, Animals
Cypress Mulch is great. You can get a giant bag of it at Home Depot or whatever. Much cheaper than buying aspen from a pet store. Just keep it moist.
Cypress is NOT aromatic (don't confuse it with Cedar, which is a no-no).
