Hi Gordon, all,
My hike today turned up a velvet ant which is pretty interesting looking.
I also found some messor(?) on the trail I usually see the HL's. (Saw none today
)
Thought I'd post the photos for those interested.
Cheers!

Hi Cable
Neat velvet ant, can't recall the species right off hand but I have collected it on many occasions. The "Messor looks like M. andrei. I think the other ant is Formica, need a good side shot to be sure. Looks like a good day though even with the lack of HLs.
I did have fun. The velvet ants are kind of intersting. First off they are huge! They also seem to be loners. I saw one other today but didn't collect it.
Did you follow the link to my site? I also found what I think are messor up there for the first time but wanted to see if you'd confirm it.
