largest croc

mrfisher Oct 23, 2008 02:28 PM

I know this topic has been beat to death, but I don't recall this info being mentioned...
Wikipedia cites the largest nile croc measured at 23 ft.

"The largest accurately measured male was shot near Mwanza, Tanzania and measured 6.45 m (21.3 ft) and weighed approximately 1,090 kg (2,400 lb)."

Wouldn't that be the largest croc ever accurately measured? The fact is actually sourced too. The source is

Wood, The Guinness Book of Animal Facts and Feats. Sterling Pub Co Inc (1983), ISBN 978-0851122359

I'm not near a library so maybe someone else could verify?

The largest? Google 'Gustave crocodile.' That is a starting point. Then, look for photos/info on Siamese/Saltie hybrids. I may be wrong, but I believe that they are the largest that there is definitive proof of.

have you seen the movie that came out about gustave? they way over did it when it comes to the size of the crocodile. they always over do it when it comes to size in reptile movies. it kind of pisses me off how they give reptiles such a bad name and then when somebody sees an alligator or snake, they think kill it! its out to get me. i also heard somewhere this guy was out boating and he saw a big salty on a sandbank, so he went to go get his measuring tape and when he got back the croc was gone so he measured the sandbank and it was 32 feet long. correct me if im wrong. i just heard this somewhere.
