How long after being laid does the embro begin to form in the egg?

xelda Sep 07, 2003 02:48 PM

I read somewhere that for a certain amount of time after being laid, an egg can actually be jostled around without drowning the embryo. I think somebody said it was a day, but I'm not sure. Anybody know for sure?

no one can know for sure. every egg developes at different speeds, which is why all eggs don't hatch in the same amount of time. the embryo, i believe, starts forming before being laid, but not to any extent that it can drown. i would try to keep it still as much as possible.

your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it, and you'll ask yourself, "where is my mind"

I found it about 9 hours after it was laid. Unfortunately, I found it when I was misting the humid hide. I didn't think there was anything in there, because it turned out to be only one egg really well hidden. So it rolled. It's denting just a tiny bit, but I think it's fertile.

Try putting a moist paper towel over the egg. If it is fertile and still alive, the added moisture should help the egg inflate again. Good luck!

Thanks. I've got it set up using Albey's method, and it looks like all the denting is already gone.

It's not a matter of when the ebryo developed when worrying about the egg being rolled. It's a matter of when the ebryo attaches to the lining of the egg. The embryo typically wont attach for almost 2 days after being laid, so I wouldn't worry too much about 9 hours.

Hope this helps,
