Rack cages ready to go?

mingdurga Oct 24, 2008 01:32 PM

Someday I hope to see certain rack mfgrs. supply the proper tubs with their racks, so I don't have to scour around to see who has what. And lastly I would like to see some racks dis-assembled when shipped. Truck freight cost is way too pricey. If it can be put together, it sure can be taken apart. It's not like building your own car from scratch, or is it?

To save on shipping. Nice Racks ( I don't have their cages) for a modest price compared to the all metal higher end ones. You could probably take them apart to store them better too if you had a mind to I guess.

That said, I am very excited to see manufacturers like ARS making tubs that are very large, cage size even, where you could have the ease of maintenance of a rack but for ease of conscience, the size of a cage. Check out their #8514 model. It's close to the dimensions of a 3' Vision! I checked them out in person at Daytona and they looked real sturdy. They even have one that is a tub 30"x 40"!

I have noticed in other hobbies where animals are involved people spend alot more money on caging, aquariums, stalls and large bird cages and we tend to low budget these animals we love in little plastic boxes. Makes you wonder sometimes.........

ARS and Freedom Breeder fit the bill, but the freight is very costly. If they came in a kit, I'd buy it. Even single levels on the large trays come freight or god forbid greyhound.

I may as well go to the vision boa racks for large colubrids. I built several myself, but takes up too much room.

Brian at ARS ships with the customer in mind, he also uses Greyhound as much as possible. Significantly lowered rates than the other companies but again you have to be near a terminal.

I don't think the overall cost of shipping is that bad when compared to the unit as a whole. Mind you the cost of one piece is significant but LTL rates are reasonable for a full rack.

$2000 rack shipped for 10% cost not too bad.

Cheers

I am a firm believer in Animal Plastic products. They have great customer service, shipping is reasonable and their racks are easy to put together, and if you desire, take apart. And Sterilite tubs are usually easy to find, or can be ordered ffom AP.
