Black Milksnake Question

Joeycoco98 Oct 25, 2008 09:31 AM

At what point does the color change stop? I have a male that I got form Cherryville Farm in '05 that began his color change but is still holding on to some muted red. A female I got last year as a hatchling is almost completely black. What has been your experience(s) as far as color change? Thanks for any feedback or comments.

Well as you can tell, each individual is different and changes color at their own pace. I would say most are substantially black between 18 months and two years. I'm a little surprised you have an 05 that still shows red.

Here is a pic of an animal a few months shy of two years.

yea, I am surprised as well. I was not expecting such a slow color change, I figure two years max. It did not hit home until I got the female that is a year old and almost completely black. I hope he eventually will complete his color change.
