breeding diamonds

detroitdipset Oct 25, 2008 08:57 PM

I have 1.1 diamonds that i raised up since yearlings. They are now 5 years old and they are both around 7 feet but the female has more girth to her. I want to try my hand at breeding these beautiful snakes. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice. I appreciate any advice. I have taken great care of them but breeding wise Im no expert.
Thanks in advance.
Charles

There are lots of good books on python breeding. And Stan Chiras has written an awesome article on diamonds specifically which you can google. Asking people to post "how to breed pythons" isn't going to get you very far.

Good luck... and lets see some pics.

I see that this isn't the best method lol...(thought that was what a forum was..lol).. I read many articles and books. I just dont know anyone personally who has bred Diamons but in the past when breeding snakes that tended to be a little more difficult there are usually people who have done it in the past and they'll allow you to pick their brain. and This has helped for me..
but thanks for the tip zach and I'm goin to check out those articles..
I'm getting my new phone tommorow so Ill take some more and post them soon.

Hi Charles
I have managed to breed diamonds but in my own experience I had no luck at all for a number of years with 1.2 animals it wasn't until I introduced another group of 2.1 animals that I had any success. That doesn't mean you can't breed them with only one male but more is an advantage. I cool mine down for 16 hours a day for around 10 weeks and then put them all into one viv when I warm them up again, this works for me in fact last year I had twins!
