jr88 Oct 25, 2008 10:06 PM

I have a freind who asked me if I wanted to invest in the project with him and not sure. $1000-1500 seems alot for a burm. are they a morph everyone is dieing to get ahold of? No interest? Would you invest or recomend it? im just looking for opinions from anyone who is familiar with them. Thanks for your time

Have you seen the adult hypos? They're really great looking burms. I happen to be a big fan of Burmese Pythons, so I bought a pair of hypos this summer. I've been feeding the heck out of them and they're growing like weeds and look better and better each week. I will say that they aren't the calmest burms I've ever had, but they might be the best looking.
What I'm really excited about is the idea of how their offspring might look. Will they simply be regular hypos? A super version? Who knows? In any case, these things are really great looking in my opinion. Worth $1500 a pair? That's for the buyers to determine.

Real hypos or het lucys are 10,000 a pair as babies so you better trust who you get them from they may be calling they hypos because they are light in color and not het lucy

3k a pr of het lucy from jon @ amy mack when they get to my partners next wk ill get him to send some pics, look exactly like the pic you posted white sided but lighter tan not green like yours

JeffWilson Oct 27, 2008 08:17 PM

here is a shot of a true hypo not the best pic but you got something to compare yours with

Is that really considered a hypo? I can certainly see the lighter coloration on the sides, but most of the snake looks pretty normal, at least in that picture.
The snakes I have weren't sold to me as het for leucistic, just hypo, and that's what they look like. They are much, much lighter than normal burms. I'm at work now, but I'll post a couple of photos tonight. They're still very young, but they get even lighter with every shed. I can't wait to see what they look like in a year. I'm sure they would have been in the ten thousand dollar range if they were 100% het for leucistic, but these are simply hypo. And they're great looking, IMHO

Yes that is a hypo the sides are the key if they dont have it they are not a hypo , some people think that a lighter color is hypo not saying they are wrong but not a true hypo post pics of yours

I'm pretty sure that 'hypomelanistic' simply means less melanine than normal, which of course results in a lighter colored snake. The lighter colored sides in the photo you posted must be a marker for het for leucistic, which obviously would be a far more desired trait than simple hypomelanism.
So even if a burm didn't carry the gene for leucism, being obviously and markedly lighter in color would make it hypo by simple definition.
All that being said, I'd trade my wife and two of my children for a pair of White Burmese Pythons! lol
And I'll post pics tonight.

Sorry this took so long. You can see in the photos, the slightly smaller one is just a bit darker. The bigger one was the same color but has lightened with every shed. I'm hoping for the same from the female.

But that's not a hypo. It's a really nice looking burm, but like you said in an earlier post hypo means reduced black. Yours still has a lot of black in the pattern. You also said something about $1500 a pair. True hypos are several thousands each.

Here is a pic of a true hypo. This was taken just after a shed. As you can see he has very little black.

Randy,

That is an awesome snake. It looks to be about 5 feet, am I correct? Was is darker as a hatchling or did it hatch out being that nice? I was assuming the animals would grow lighter with each shed. So far that has been the case, but as you can see, they're not in the ballpark of the snake you showed in that last post.
I was feeling ok about them, since I'd had many hypo corns snakes. Right out the egg they don't look to be anything too special, but as they grow, their hypomelanism becomes more and more obvious. I figured the burms would grow out the same way.
I have had other boids that looked pretty average as babies and grown up to be smokers. I guess that I'd better start praying hard and fast now. lol

That picture was actually taken last December and he was about 3 feet. I need to get some new pics of him and our female. They were pretty bright as hatchlings, but have brightened up after each shed. They get darker and their bellies turn pink just before they shed, but after they shed, they glow. Another trait of the true hypo's are their eyes, they are a light copper color.

Like others have said, I think I know where you got yours. I can't say names on the forum, but if you want to email me or call me we can discuss it further. Our contact info is on our website www.artinscales.com

Oh man Vinny. Randy pretty much summed it up. You have to be careful who you buy from. If it's too good of a deal there is usually a good reason for that. The best advice I can give you is try and do a little more homework next time. If you got those from who I think you did there was plenty of info out there on the net that could have helped you. Feel free to drop me an e-mail if you want me to point you in the right direction.

Take care,
Ben
