TIMES-LEADER (Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania) 19 October 08 Eastern hognose snake is still proving to be an elusive find (Tom Venesky)
The Eastern hognose is the last snake needed to wrap of the Snakes of Luzerne County series.
It’s also the toughest to find.
Rick Koval and I have followed up on reported sightings, walked acres of hognose habitat and even had one get away.
With the warm weather disappearing, time is running out on our search. We’ll give it one more week and hopefully we’ll be able to find a hognose – the last snake needed for the series.
Either way, a special page will be published in the next few weeks summarizing the snakes we were able to find as well as the hognose, whether we find it or not. A publication date for the page will be listed in the near future.
Also, we will be starting other searches for different herps in Luzerne County next spring. Expect to see the salamanders, frogs and turtles that inhabit our county.
In the meantime, Koval and I will continue searching for the 13th and final species needed for Snakes of Luzerne County.
