Need help IDing snakes

Eska Oct 26, 2008 08:44 PM

Hello,

unfortunately I was unable to take pictures of these animals I am about to describe, and I am totally lost when it comes to anything venomous. Anyway, I'll give you the best descriptions possible.

- Three small, seemed to be hatchling rattlesnakes. They were grey-black in color. The best way to describe them is that they looked like Anery cornsnakes, except with a small rattle. They even had the markings of a classic corn head pattern.

- One sub adult rattlesnake. Pinkish background colour, yellow spots. No visible pattern.

- one other that I know is venomous. I read about them somewhere, but I just can't remember for the life of me the name. It was a chocolate brown coloration, with tiny bands of white. About an inch of the tail was a bright lime green, it was also around.. a foot to two feet long.

Thank you for your help :D

Unfortunately I cannot tell you where I was. I could lose my job posting about it on a public forum. Thus why I cannot post pictures. I am simply trying to narrow things down from a paperwork standpoint, but if all I'm going to get is rude replies, then just forget about it.

Thanks for your time anyway everyone.

Too late... by giving the info you've given we already know you were probably in Mexico, possibly visiting further south into Central America.

That's the thing about information that you give. If you don't know the answer sometimes you don't know how telling the answer will be.

I wish I was in Mexico :P

If you read my last post, where I actually had an attempt at an answer to my inquiry, you would have seen that these animals I described were captive bred, and thus show no indication of my whereabouts. I never said my whereabouts was classified information and thus I shall tell you. I live in Canada.

I thank Tom who actually made a helpful post. You appear to be correct with all of them. It's very appreciated.

I only came here as I have never had to deal with anything venomous before, and I found myself in a situation where I had to deal with them, and so I needed an idea of WHAT I was dealing with. I said I didn't have photo's because frankly, I didn't have a camera. All I had was my eyes.

All in all though, they are very beautiful snakes

Sorry about that. I meant to say that I cannot say the EXACT location of where I was.

I'm glad I was able to help, but I'm honestly shocked I appeared to have got them all correct the first go around. Honestly, the Aruba Island rattlesnake is quite the rarity, I'd have bet that I was wrong about that snake and it's something else I'm not familiar with, maybe an albino western diamondback now that I know the stuff is definitely captive bred.

I even have a guess as to what you're up to, however it's irrelevant so I'll keep it to myself.

Ok, with no geographical location available, here we go......

Three small, seemed to be hatchling rattlesnakes. They were grey-black in color. The best way to describe them is that they looked like Anery cornsnakes, except with a small rattle. They even had the markings of a classic corn head pattern.

Sounds like maybe a Massasauga from the central US, maybe....

- One sub adult rattlesnake. Pinkish background colour, yellow spots. No visible pattern.

Wild animal? Maybe Crotalus Unicolor, the Aruba Island rattlesnake. Just a stab. Variable coloration

Captive bred? Could be lots more options. Need more detail if possible.

- one other that I know is venomous. I read about them somewhere, but I just can't remember for the life of me the name. It was a chocolate brown coloration, with tiny bands of white. About an inch of the tail was a bright lime green, it was also around.. a foot to two feet long.

Bright colored tail tip, very possibly venomous. A young ornate cantil ?

Just total stabs at your descriptions with no regard to location at all. I'm by no means an expert on this stuff. Sounds like maybe you're describing someone's captive animals.
