Snake-bite survivor Megan McDonough was relaxing at home yesterday counting her lucky stars.
The young Hawkesdale mother yesterday revealed how close she came to death after a tiger snake bit her at the Hamilton races.
"I didn't realise how sick I was," she told The Standard.
"The doctors told me I was a lucky woman."
Ms McDonough, 26, was discharged from Hamilton Base Hospital yesterday after spending three days in intensive care.
She said it would take a while for her to return to full health.
The snake "grabbed on" to her when she was parading in the fashions on the field.
"We were walking around the circle for the second time when I felt something sting my ankle.
"I thought I had walked into a prickle but I felt it grab on.
"I looked around and then I saw an awfully big tiger snake slithering away.
"I saw two little bite marks on my ankle and blood started to trickle out.
"My friends around me were just telling me to stay calm."
