black dimpled eyes on my ball

cygnuswatch Oct 27, 2008 08:56 PM

My ball has black eyes, no color or anything, just a flat black, with a line or dimple of sorts in it. Is this likely an eye cap (or many) left on from bad sheds? Or dimpled eyes from low humidity/etc? I know I've had problems with humidity, just put in a wet hide box today.

Are ball eyes sometimes all black? Or are all eyes supposed to have color, pupils, etc? I assume this is a problem, but let me know if I'm just overreacting. Also, if it is, what can I do to fix it??

With normal ball pythons they tend to have really dark eyes and it can be really difficult to even see the pupils. Dimpling, on the other hand, usually indicates stuck eye caps. You can wait til the next shed and see if they come off with it, or you can try and remove it yourself with some tape. You take the sticky side and press it against the eye and slowly peel it off. It should take the eye cap off with it. You do need to make sure that there is a stuck eye cap, if there isn't one it can cause some damage.

GREAT help thanks!! I realized that the snake needed more water anyways, it couldn't soak in it's tub, so I got a bigger soak dish with a cover, it spent a day in there, it's eyes are now milky and it looks like it might be ready to shed again soon. Hopefully it will see again soon!!! Thanks again for the help.
