Splashing at night

subsonic816 Sep 07, 2003 05:53 PM

My 1 1/2 year old female splash's each night arounf the same time (2:30 am). I feed her right before I go to bed around 11 - 12. I was wondering if there is any way to keep her from splashing and waking up my entire house? I tried turning off the light, putting oer the front of her tank and getting her out for a few minutes, none of which work. I unfortunatly can't put her in a different room so somehow I have to find a way to quiet her. I end up giing her a few piesce of food to shut her up so I can go back to sleep but in a few hours she's back at it again. PLEASE HELP!!! I want to sleep again!!

I dont know what size your tank is but you might consider a bigger one, maybe she is borred? OR maybe something in the tank to occupy her. I have heard that you can put those small cat ball toys with the jingle bell inside in the tank for them to play with or you may want to add some romaine lettuce or some other kind of veggie in there to maybe fill her up if it is hunger that keeps her up? Just some suggestions.

I agree with changing her feeding time. It would be better to feed her in the morning so she can bask and digest her food (she needs the heat to digest it properly). Maybe that`s what she`s looking for...

Do you mean turn the light off over the turtle's enclosure.
If so you need to change the turtles day/night cycles. Turtles
should be sleeping at this time. They should not be eating.
My turtles lights go off at 7pm and they are out for the night.
When their lights go back on at 7am, they wake up and are
ready to eat.

I would get your turtle on a more natural cycle as over time
this may cause some health problems.

Good luck!

Sounds like your turtle has you trained pretty well. I certainly agree that the light should be off at night. I have a couple of cheap timers I got at walmart for my turtles lights. Feeding in the morning is also a good idea. If these dont solve your problems, try using ambient noise to cover up the sounds. I run 2 air cleaners and a fan. Once you get used to the noise, you just about cant sleep without it. Ive also had the same luck with crickets, but they die too fast. You could also build a canopy hood which would not only keep the noise down, but also keep in the heat.

Here is a photo of my hood.
