Stunted Growth

ntfish Oct 29, 2008 02:29 PM

I recently acquired a couple of beardies that are real small for their age. They are supposedly six months old and are 9 inches and 11 inches. I have to assume they were not kept under the best of care due to their small size. They eat really well for me and I'd like to know if there is any chance that they will recover from this and attain normal size or if they are destined to remain small. Thanks in advance-Scott

at 6 months they have plenty of time to grow to full sized adults. Just feed them plenty of food, provide best care and they will catch up in no time.

I agree with the other too...plenty of time for growing! If they were previously housed together then i would separate them. Its not advisable to keep young beardies together anyway - and the added stress of being together can lead to stunted growth. Beardies that are housed alone are much more likely to thrive.

I agree with the others, they have time to grow. I would see though how they are seperate and together. I have found some dragons do better solo, and others will really do good housed with other dragons(competition?). I have a male now, that was housed with others in a tub and was doing awesome. He got his own cage and slowed down alot. I re-introduced a couple of them back together and he is back to his old ways. On the other hand I have a female that does much better solo and I think she is intimidated by other dragons, even smaller than her.

Thanks for the input, people. The way these guys are eating, I have no doubt they will be packing on the size in no time.-Scott
