can you take pics of your set up and post them?
I used Hatchrite this past year and I had to add a little bit of water to mine.

Tried it last season and on the very first clutch they started drying almost immediately. Now I mix what I have left with vermiculite and add water.

My guess is that your egg boxes aren't air-tight.
I lost a couple of clutches in plastic shoeboxes, but the ones sealed in tupperware did great. I use sealed boxes and open them once a week or so to give them fresh air. The eggs need a little oxygen, but airing them once a week provides plenty.
I used hatchrite last year on a clutch of eggs with no problem. If i thought that it was drying out i just mixed the substrate around the eggs. I also added alittle water just once. All hatched well. Good luck

I use hatchrite just like perlite, add water too it, if your bag had a pinhole in it it has been drying out since the only reason I use hatchrite is because I kept getting dirt and twigs in the perlite, hatchrite is always nice and clean
