Eggs Fertile...? **PICS**

chrysemys Sep 07, 2003 06:08 PM

Hey,
My feamle has layed several clutches in the past month and a half. But I do not think all of them are fertile. The link will take you to a pic of them. Please tell me which ones look fertile and which ones dont. I know it's hard telling from a pic but please do your best.

ya they all look fertil but you need to get them a little further away frm each other, that close isnt always good when a new hatchling is walking all overtop of the eggs on its first rendezvous. the one on the far left looks as though it could be a possible double as well. ive never seen a double in leos but that sure looks like it to me.

Ok, thanks. I thought a couple looked a little yellow. But I have heard that they would rot and get nasty within a week if they were infertile. All eggs have been in there for more than a week. The 2 largest eggs, far right and far left, have been in there for about 46 days. So they should be hatching any day now.
Thanks,
Chris D.

Try candling your eggs. To do this you need a small flashlight. Turn off any bright room lights, then place the flashlight onto the side of the egg and turn it on. If you see a red glow then your egg has been fertilized, and most likely still good. If you only see only a yellow glow, then the egg is infertile. Not all infertile eggs will dent/mold right away. Wait about a week before candling new eggs, it can be hard to tell the first few days. Most eggs will appear very dark just before they hatch. Let us know if you have any more questions, and good luck with your hatchlings.
