Off topic sea turtle pic

boxienuts Oct 29, 2008 09:44 PM

Well since its a slow time of the year and we are all turtle fans, I thought I would post a pic that I took last week in Hawaii while celebrating our 5th wedding aniversary, and "no we are not spoiled rich people , my wife and I both worked two jobs since we were married to afford the 15 day Hawaii cruise". It's a wild green sea turtle on the beach by the Place of Refuge in Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park near Kona, Hawaii (The Big Island) We saw many sea turtles on the beach and swimming in the shallows in the bay, at 40yrs old, seeing them in the wild fulfilled a life long dream of mine.

Very cool! You should repost those pictures about once a month during the winter, just to rub it in.

Good for you. I love seeing pictures of places that I can only dream of. Thank you for posting them. They were wonderful.

boxienuts Nov 02, 2008 01:09 PM

Nah, I won't rub it in,lol, but I will say when we have foot of snow topped with a couple inches of ice and -20 temps in Feb. here in Iowa it sure will be nice to look at those pictures and try to feel warmer.

we did snorkle for an hour in Kona but unfortunately did not see any turtles and that spot, we did see tons of fish and corals though, which was cool.

I've been there several times and it's a great treat to see the green sea turtles basking. Did you walk to the lave tunnel and jump out of it to the sea below? I have NOT but hubby has

I had some very close encounters with swimming turtles at a beach right in Kaiula-Kona. We can't touch them, but they are so tame when they are munching on seawwed that they will touch you sometimes! Thanks for sharing these great pictures, and happy 5th anniversary! Tess

boxienuts Nov 02, 2008 01:12 PM

Thanks Tess, we did walk through a lava tube but it wasn't by the sea.

Thought about contacting you but didn't want to put you on the spot, and you would have been dissapointed I'm not that handsome , we're just average midwestern americans, see below, besides with only one day at each stop we were pretty go,go,go the whole time trying to soak up as much as possible. The 15 day is holland america, leaves out of San Diego , then stops at Hilo,Honolulu,Kauai,Lahaina Maui, and Kona then Ensenada, then back to San Diego. We did that long of one because with the price of airline tickets to Honolulu it was going to be about even money and we decided we would rather have extra days at sea than a 20hr flight day, kinda of a no brainer to us, it was just difficult to be gone from work that long, been playing catch up all week. Would love to have a next time, but doubtful we will be back, there are other places to see, it's a big world, but you never know

YOU would not be putting me on the spot.
I had thought we were on the call list from months ago???
Well that is great shirt.
Where is the shot taken?
and yes, that would have been a no brainer for me too.
Where in the heck do you live, Ireland?
What was it like to be in the middle of an ocean on a boat?
Sincerely, Patsy
