So I have this male normal ball python...Since I got him I realized he has very little pattern on his belly, so I was thinking maybe he was a yellowbelly. Kevin at NERD said he didnt think so...so I figured Id try to get a second opinion...Thanks.

Yeah I figure if NERD says its normal, its probably normal..But then again every time I see a Yellowbelly, it looks normal to me.
you can tell the difference between a normal and a YB very easily. if you hold a normal in one hand and a YB in the other then you will understand what i am talking about.

This is an '08 captive hatched YB female we picked up a few months ago.

I've never seen a yb that looked normal. I guess when you have no idea what you are looking at and you question one of the originators of the bp hobby a yb could look normal. I guess this is one awesome looking normal.

a BAD dog is MADE not bred, support the American Pit Bull Terrier as the greatest breed of dogs on Earth!!!!!
Wow such sarcasm. Actually some DO look pretty normal. Your captive born animal has all the markers and great flames and is pretty obvious, but having four bloodlines of my own and seeing so many adult Y.B. imports i tend to disagree with you. They don`t ALL look like yours.
And of course i`m talking about to the untrained eye. Not like all of the "pros" on here.
I know they don't all look like mine, which is why I spent a little more than normal asking price on mine. However, all DO look like yb's and not normals. Yes I know that as they get older the checkering on the belly-sides can become less distinct. Yes I know not all have huge flames. But they all do have lighter colored bellies (the scales on the side comming up from the ventral scales) as adults, they all do have some checkerig and they all do have some flames even if minimal. I have seen multiple (more than 4) lines of wc proven yb's and they all look like yb's, just not all are stunning. His animal absolutely looks nothing like a yb. In fact it's ventral scales are a contriction to what the markings one would expect to see on a yb as his has a decreased amount of lateral markings vs. the increased checkering normally seen. So yes I was sarcastic, and yes I will continue to be sarcastic, and no it still will not turn his normal into a yb.

it takes one search on google or on here to see what true yb's look like. If that were done as the poster says, he could not have thought his animal was a yb. At some point the individual either as a customer or just as anyone involved in this hobby needs to be held responsible in doing some research. (Man it could have turned out bad when I wanted my first elapid to be a cape cobra, good thing I researched first!)

I know all YBs DO look like non-normals to you and to me as well. But if it were so obvious for the untrained eye, then why have there been over 100 "is this a yellowbelly?" posts over the past few years on this forum? I have smoker YBs to outright dogs as they are extremely variable as you know, and i don`t think sarcasm is the way to "help" some of the newer people in the hobby. Just my .02 take it or leave it.
Kevin McCurly can identify a ballpython morph from 20 feet away in a dense fog!
Kevin may look like he is from a different planet, but he knows his Balls, respect his opinion!

Nice looking normal, regardless.

Thanks...he does have a pretty patternless belly...Thats why I wondered...but I guess that doesnt neccesarily mean its a yellowbelly...I just wish he wasnt such a damn picky eater!
In most cases a second opinion doesn't hurt. This isn't most cases! LOL If Kevin said no........ it's no.
That's what I figured, but I was bored and it only took a few clicks to post this so I thought...what the hell!
This may help or is hopefully interesting at least. This isn't my site, I have seen it posted on this forum a few times.
And never second guess Satan!
