Change in Attitude with my Black Heads

Anselmo1 Oct 30, 2008 01:31 PM

Hello,

Recently my Black Heads attitude has changed quite a bit. The temps, humidity and feeding have remained consistent and at least environmentally nothing has changed.

At first they are docile but without warning they will open their mouth on my hands, arms, anywhere there is skin.

Their is no scent other then soap and I have tried switching that too.

Any reason why my black heads have resorted to biting?

I at first thought they were overly hungry but they are feeding on a weekly basis and getting a proper size diet. They are 4 1/2' and feeding on 3 jumbo mice every 8-10 days.

Any advice on how to stop this behavior is this normal for them?

This just started about 2 month ago or so...Keeping my from holding them to long. Take a look at this pic, she just opened her mouth and started eating me! lol

Thank you,

Eric

Yep....that's BHP's for ya.Haha.
How much are you feeding them?
After the first year....they really get excited about food. Remember, they don't eat rodents very much in the wild. They have to be "trained" to eat warm blooded mammals....WE are warm blooded mammals....so the BHP's don't see us any different than a prey item. That's why they bite.
Hell, I've got a couple that will wrap coffee cups, warm water buckets, shoes....anything with heat emitting from it.

Up their feeding just a bit....not much, maybe drop a day between feeds.
Although, I found that it's just during that 2 -3 years phase where they are so "food crazy", most will grow into very calm adults ( I can hand feed everyone of mine) but, some.....are just crazy about eating.

Cheers.

I have the same problem with my Woma...At first I could just take him right out of the cage with no problem...After trying to figure out the best way to feed him, FT or live...He seemed to get confused and ever since he has been biting me if I just take him right out of the cage...So what I do is take him out with my snake stick and kind of let him see that it's me...Then I can hold him fine.
